Hey guys,
i recently bought a Dark Ritual from the 4. Edition. When I touched it, it felt a little bit strange, like it is slightly more rough than my "newer" cards. But since I dont have any other 4. Edition card, I cant say that that wasnt normal for that edition or not. Furthermore the paper feels a bit thinner.
It is not as that would be a money card, but I still wanna know if that could be a fake or not

Can you put up a high resolution scan?

Right now I can only give you a camera shot. On saturday I can do a high quality scan.
The card seems brighter than scans on the internet, too. Sadly not so easy to recognice on the photos

Thx for the link :) But as it is stated magiclibraries the card stock should be a bit thicker than a normal one, and not thinner like my card. I think I have to find someone who has a 4. Edition card so I can feel, if they feel alike
4th Edition had an official, alternate printing made in the USA. The ink is darker, the card stock more closely resembling poker cards. I believe it also fails the UV test, but I could be mistaken. These however, are official MTG cards. I can't see the photos, but keep that info in mind.

Yes, they don't pass the UV test.
I won't be extremely thrilled with the Dark Ritual, just throw it away if you fear that it may bring troubles in sanctioned play. (Hint: it won't, I don't think anyone would unsleeve it and call the judge on you.) Of the Fourth Edition's cards, there are like one or two that would anybody falsificate: one is Wrath of God, maybe there's another one. I'd be super calm about the DRit, definitely real card.

In terms of Legacy-playable, 4th would only even be worth it if its FBB - Lightning Bolt, Dark Ritual, Armageddon, Wrath of God, Red Elemental Blast, Birds of Paradise. I honestly think that Bolt and REB would be the most liquid, but would be worth, what, $15?

Yes, what I meant is that it's unreasonable to falsificate cards that are either cheap (WB 4ED) or only interesting for collectors/experienced (4ED FBB), who'd identify forgeries without smallest trouble.

Sylvan library being the other card, even then not worth while.
On another note, maybe it is alternate 4th edition, and you just made a little extra beyond what you payed for it in that case.

Oh, true! Both points.

Very likely alternate 4th edition/printed here in the US by the US Card Playing Company/not printed in Carta Mundi. I'd be pleased with it because alternate 4th cards demand a premium due to them being less common and if it bothers you so much go spend another 50 cents on another dark ritual from one of the many sets it was printed in. As for it in sanctioned play, nobody will know the difference in all likelihood but if you're that scared, again, go and spend another 50 cents to get another copy of it. No one is faking a dark ritual from 4th edition. Alpha, beta, and summer dark rits might be faked but not 4th edition because 4th ed. dark rits are not going to be worth anything ever.
I think 4th edition might have been one of the sets that wotc had to use a different card stock for in general. There was a shortage of the proper card stock around that time. As an example, one of the other ones was Fallen Empires. It's a bit hard to tell unless you are actually cracking a pack, but the cards do not have as much give and are particularly matted/non-glossy. Your description of "rough" could be this same thing.
