    [Idea] Useful Threads

So, I've noticed over my Source career that there have been a number of threads that were of some use to me in the deckbuilding process. For an example, see the thread just started about Green sideboard options. I've seen similar threads started about Pithing needle and Meddling Mage targets by deck and various wish targets by color. I've found that these threads run into a few problems:

    • They tend to become unwieldy due to too many posts and bickering.
    • They tend to fade away after a short period and become difficult to locate.
    • They become out of date and useless.

I think I have a solution to all of these, though it would take some work. Overall though, it might help the quality and ease of deckbuilding in Legacy, particularly for beginners.

So here's my idea, create a new section of the Forum titled "Deckbuilding Tools" or some such (you could put them as stickies in the community forum or some such, but I think they would clog things up too much) and have hopefully a knowledgeable adept run the opening post and keep it updated so all the relevant info is right there. Hell, I could run them, but I think the more skilled players might be better able to filter through the crap and keep the opening post tight (the rest of the thread will still be there for those who want to dive deeper). This new section of the forum combined with the updating and formatting of the opening post would keep the threads relevant and easy to find. In the beginning the section could consist of these threads:

    • 5 threads for quality sideboard cards of each color and maybe 1 each for Gold and artifact/land.
    • Pithing Needle targets by deck sorted by perceived relevance (SotF should probably be higher on the list against Survival decks than Wooded Foothills for example).
    • Meddling Mage targets as above (might not be worth it now withg the decline of Meddling Mage).
    • Burning Wish targets by color.
    • Cunning Wish targets by color.
    • Glittering Wish and Living Wish are both possibilities, although more problematic.
    • Cards to fight popular decks (this one could be very useful, but it could be a train wreck too).

(this is just a rough draft and suggestions are more than welcome)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I remember there was a thread that had anwsers to Empty the Warrens in each colour. I'll see if I can dig that up.

    EDIT: Here.

Sounds like an awesome idea, exactly the sort of resource that both Legacy veterans & newcomers to the format would benefit from...and a metric fuckton of work for somebody..... I like the idea of it's own little area (as it would clutter the top of any existing forum) but would prefer to see a stickied OP for each idea that is updated as necessary from discussion in open threads below. Posters without a clue or with absurdly controversial ideas should have an opportunity to advance their ideas, but the purpose would be shattered if people like Breathweapon or elventitz could hijack the actual thread.

    @Phantom: +1 Internets for you, and +2 Pinders (that's 27 lesbian points!!).

I think that the TarmoBan thread (the thread made in reponse to Tarmogoyf's advent) would be useful due to the rather long list of unconventional, yet viable removal. Will find. It moght take longer than expected.

OK, I search Tarmogoyf, and every thread on the site shows up. WTF!!!!!!!

@ EtW thread: I really liked that one, but I'm assuming all those would be included in the SB discussion for each color.

@ fuckton of work: True, but I was thinking one person runs a specific thread, not one running them all, so I think it's very manageable.

@ people not being able to post: I'm not sure I like that. The idea is to have a well made and maintained opening post followed by suggestions and criticism from everyone that may or may not be taken into account. If you don't want to sort through the palaver, just stick to the OP.

@ answers to Goyf: Sadly that might be useful.

1 maintenance person per thread makes a lot of sense & actually would makes it less unwieldy. I don't advocate no discussion, but you've seen how that can go horribly awry here (and elsewhere on the Internet...). As long as the OP is maintained & upgraded as knowledge advances & consensus is reached, having it attached to the actual discussion thread would work. I like the idea of separation, though, as it emphasizes the difference between soapbox/mad scientist lab/delusion central & agreed upon knowledge. I would be willing to be one of these maintenance people if this is a function that can be handled by non-mod peoples. Feel free to contact me & again kudos on a fantastic idea.

Wow, cool idea. Just a question, are Starcity articles copyrighted by Starcity or can authors use them at their own will? I say that because I found some parts of last Bardo's article about Landstill may be something interesting to keep in that kind of threads, specially stuff about what every color offers and all that "excerpts" from "The Landstill Player’s Bible".
We tried to copy the Source, but then we realized we're spanish

    Re: [Idea] Useful Threads

I appreciate all the support, but I haven't heard from the two groups that I really want/need to:

    A) The mods and people who run the forum. This is not going to work if there isn't a new section of the forum or if the threads aren't stickied.

    and

    B) Adepts. These are the people I was counting on helping to run a thread a piece since most of them are highly skilled and knowledgeable. There's no reason I couldn't just take random volunteers, but I think the quality of the thread might suffer a bit.

So until I hear from them, there's really no point in me proceeding.

I also suggest "Blind Cabal Therapy calls" against archetypes.
Living and Glittering wishes aren't needed, imho, as they aren't widely played. And Living wish is too broad anyway.

Blind Therapy calls is a good category, although it can vary depending on conditions such as which game, play/draw, what's already been played/done, and what your build has to fear (GB might not fear enchantments at all where a RB deck would have no other way to deal with them). It wouldn't hurt to work on Glittering Wish, since it could conceivably see play. As for Living Wish, obviously it would depend on build to a certain extent...but we're not discussing it (I thought) as an adjunct to the main strategy of <whatever> deck, but as a sideboard enabler. Focusing on what cards you would have in the side, as sideboard cards, would be feasible (and dependent on however much space IS left from the use of Living Wish as a main deck adjunct).

If this gets done, I wouldn't have a problem with updating 2-3 of those main posts myself. It would just be leg work.

Beyond your listed categories, here are other possibilities:

-A sticky with fundamentals of deck design. The very basics. Like how many of a card to pick for a deck.
    -Graveyard Hate
-Efficient Board Sweepers by Card Types Affected

I would imagine after the opening post, which would be some work to figure out all the organization, that it would be just leg work. Thanks.

Sounds interesting, although yard hate would probably be covered in the sideboard discussions for each color, right?

The way I figure it, we want to keep it small, simple, and manageable at first. Like the best 10-15 threads, then expand if it is going well.

Is there any update on how the discussions are going on this? I PM'd Nightmare to no response...

I'm just trying to get a feel on how the conversation is going.
