Someone else had a playmat like that, I don't know if it was identical. Honestly, I would have asked him to turn his over too. If nothing else it was VERY distracting (and yes, offensive to the senses)

It's a fact that Phillips is a loose cannon, but LAM can't possibly say he wasn't just as big a dick. There is no reason to ask him to turn his playmat over (I guess you could be offended, but if you're really offended by that playmat, don't go to any beach ever, and don't ever watch any movie rated PG-13 or up, and don't drive past any billboards...). Writing your life total with a highlighter is stupid, and I'd have called you on it just as fast, especially if you had already called a judge on something as dumb as a playmat. Both players are equally responsible for the situation escalating like it did (although ultimately Phillips could have handled it much better).

And, of course, nobody should be throwing anyone else's deck around the room.

I wish I was there to have witnessed the whole thing, but about the whole LAM/Adam Phillips fiasco - a lot of you are complaining about LAM's actions, but, as of yet, I haven't heard any claims of actual bad behavior from him. Everything I've heard has been not only completely within the rules for a sanctioned tournament, but also, if anything, it sounded like LAM was being less of a rules lawyer than he used to.

Regarding the mat: believe it or not, there are a lot of Magic players out there who would be uncomfortable with a play-mat like the one described, and would ask his opponent and/or a judge to do something about it.

Regarding the fetchland: from all accounts I have heard, LAM gave his opponent ample opportunity to resolve game actions in the proper sequence, and only called a judge when Adam flat-out refused to play the game by the rules. Did anyone really see anything different?

Frankly, it looks to me like LAM is being judged based on prior actions, rather than on his actions at this tournament.

I'm not saying that LAM handled that particular situation as well as he could have, but, to be fair, you were being a bit of a weasel about using up time that day. If I recall correctly, after every game action I took, you spent a minimum of 20 seconds pretending to decide wether or not to use the counter we both knew you didn't have. I honestly considered calling a judge about Slow Play (which I think is what LAM called you on), but it wasn't necessary in our match-up because your deck either won or lost to mine in the first four turns or so. All I am saying is that his call wasn't entirely unfounded; you could consider cutting him a little slack.

If he was going for a stiffle he could have just said "dont bother, I'm stiffling your search." Otherwise play should have just continued and both simultaneously search and shuffle. Lego was playing around Daze; he was going to brainstorm after he fetched.

As for my top 8ing, it had absolutely nothing to do with any tiebreakers and much more to do with keeping no-land hands with three force of wills. Also, I have luck that would put Anwar to shame. And mushrooms.

I have lost all respect I ever had for Adam. There is no excuse for throwing someone's deck. In this situation Evn did nothing to warrant something like that. He could have let the Fetchland thing go, but Adam did ignore him when he gave him the chance to correct the mistake, and I believe he also swore at him. If anybody else had been in Adam's situation, would you not have stopped fetching and waited for the response? Is there any reason to ignore your opponent and keep going?

As far as Nick, I haven't actually played him for a while, but I know at the last DLD he was slowplaying against LAM, as I watched the match for a few minutes. There is no reason the 'think' for the full 30 seconds when you have absolutely no relevant spells in hand. I understand trying to trick your opponent, but that can be done in under 10 seconds.

I was looking over the Top 8 decklists and just couldn't believe what I saw in Geoff's Landstill list. He only played 2 Force of Will in Landstill? I found this to be a little shocking to play Landstill with only 2 FOW. I did like the build very much, but there is no question I would have to play the deck with the full 4 FOW.

What does everyone else think about his Landstill list?
